Found this blog and I still feel the same

I found this blog the other day, and still feel the same way as when I wrote the first post. Maybe I should try my hand at this again.

Groceries and Cooking - Chicen Curry in Roasted Acorn Squash

I have decided the first chores to get proactive about are groceries and cooking. I find cooking relaxing and enjoyable when I'm not rushed, and since groceries go hand in hand, they were a logical first choice.

My end vision is to create weekly meal plans and only need to shop twice a week, but for now I'm going to grab groceries on the way home for that night's dinner and the next day's lunch.

Since I'm far from an accomplished chef and my wife and I like to eat healthy I am using recipes from Men's Health magazine's Short Order Cook website. The recipe's don't have too many ingredients or take too long to prepare.

Last night I made Chicken Curry in Roasted Acorn Squash. We both liked it, was really easy to make and only took 35-40 min. Also check out my review at Men's Health's parent company Rodale's recipe site - all of Rodale's different magazines' recipes are consolidated at The Healthy Recipe Finder.

Getting off the Firetruck

I have always been proud of my ability to "fight fires", whether at work or home. I feel I work best in high risk, high reward situations and have always looked at this as a virtue. It probably is a virtuous skill, if it weren't also a large part of my lifestyle. I've just recently realized that when you fight fires, you lose your freedom, because you are constantly reacting or prepared to react - so down time doesn't really let you wind down. To regain my freedom it's time to get proactive. As to not set myself up for failure, I am going to methodically move tasks from fire fighting mode to proactive mode. I will start with tasks that would mostly be considered chores because these are fires that often don't get fought until they're burning out of control since they aren't considered "critical", but they certainly can greatly effect one's quality of life.

Being Mosser

I am one of the luckiest people I know. I have the most caring, funny and ridiculously beautiful wife. A fun and challenging job, with a boss who's a friend. And an amazing family, extended family and group of friends from home and school. I have a good life and am so very thankful. But I also know, deep inside, that it's not everyday that I strive for greatness and push myself to live my best life. That is all history. I'm taking a stand for greatness in my life, it won't be easy, and it won't be without setbacks, but I am committed.

This blog will capture my journey to take on and seek out life's great challenges, set, strive for and attain goals, realize what were before just dreams and generally live life on purpose. It is my sincerest hope that this serves to help others do the same.

The only constant in life is change. Without goals we can only react to the present because others are deciding our futures - Heraclitus (first sentence)
